Mark Cuban’s new company CostPlus is making a huge difference in the corrupt pharmaceutical industry and is making an “…effort to disrupt the drug industry and to do our best to end ridiculous drug prices.” Cuban is able to conduct such a mission by selling drugs called generics. Generics are the basic version of the drug, no brand. This is why he is able to sell these drugs for up to $6,112 off the original price. Cuban is transparent about the earnings of the company and promises all profits will be going straight into the business. There are 44 current medical categories that CostPlus currently cover, including cancer, and diabetes. The drug generics are bought then sold but in the future Cuban plans to expand the company and eventually become self-sustaining and produce all of the drugs.

There is little history of CostPlus because it was established in 2022. However it got started by the desire to give back. Mark Cuban is a self-made billionaire and is at a point in his life where he has everything anyone could dream of. Now his dream is to give back. “We started Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company because every American should have access to safe, affordable medicines.”  With his current assets and connections he has he was able to launch CostPlus and take a big shot at the arguably most corrupt industry in the world. 

The impact of Cuban’s company is bringing to the world options for people in need and proof that capitalism breeds creative ways to be competitive. It has blessed families and individuals who couldn’t afford the crazy pharmaceutical prices. Although it is new it has already helped many, Cuban addressed the Hookworm problem that affects mostly people in poverty. “Shockingly, in the USA, it’s not unusual for disadvantaged populations to suffer from rampant outbreaks of hookworm. Normally the drug prescribed for hookworm, Albendazole, can cost as much as $500 per course, making the drug out of reach for many in need. So we started off by donating more than 10,000 tablets of Albendazole to cure parasitic infections in the most affected areas of the southern US.”

People definitely do not all share the same opinion as far as their view of the company. But most would agree this was a needed strike at the pharmaceutical industry. The problem most have with CostPlus is that the drugs are not approved by the FDA. Although it is the exact same drug just without the brand it is looked down on by some that Cuban isn’t going through the FDA route. But that is the only way he is able to get costs so low. Also FDA has favored the pharmaceutical industry and have shown inconsistencies in a lot of moral decisions in the past which have caused many to trust Mark Cuban and his mission and is another reason he is going on his own.
